Conventions and AgreementsLatvia joined the following International Conventions and Agreements:· Patent Law Treaty – adopted at Geneva on June 1, 2000, took force in Latvia on June 12, 2010 · Regulations under the Patent Law Treaty · Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks – adopted in Singapore on March 27, 2006; entered into force in Latvia on March 16, 2009 · Regulations under the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks · The Geneva Act (1999) of the Hague Agreement concerning the International Registration of Industrial Design – signed at Geneva on July 2, 1999, entered in force in Latvia on July 26, 2005 · Protocol on the Interpretation of Article 69 of the European Patent Convention · European Patent Convention – signed in Munich on October 5, 1973, in force in Latvia since July 1, 2005 · Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs – signed in Locarno on October 8, 1968, amended on September 28, 1978, in force in Latvia since April 14, 2005 · International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification) · International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) – signed in Paris on December 2, 1961, entered in force in Latvia on August 30, 2002 · Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks, of June 27, 1989, took effect in Latvia on January 5, 2000 · Trademark Law Treaty, done at Geneva on October 27, 1994, took effect in Latvia on September 17, 1999 · Regulations under the Trademark Law Treaty · Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Agreement) – signed in Marrakech on April 15, 1994, took effect in Latvia on October 14, 1998 · The Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works – entered into force in Latvia on August 11, 1995 · Agreement between the USA and the Republic of Latvia on trade relations and protection of intellectual property rights, took effect on 20 January, 1995 · The Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks of June 15, 1957, as revised at Stockholm on July 14, 1967 and at Geneva on May 13, 1977 and as amended on September 28, 1979; entered into force with respect to Latvia on January 1, 1995 · International Classification of Goods and Services (Nice classification) · The Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks of April 14, 1891, as revised at Stockholm on July 14, 1967, and as amended on September 28, 1979, entered into force with respect to Latvia on January 1, 1995 · Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure – done at Budapest on April 28, 1977, and amended on September 26, 1980; entered into force in respect to Latvia on December 29, 1994 · Regulations under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure · Agreement with European Patent Organization (EPO) on Extension of European Patents to the Territory of the Republic of Latvia – signed in Munich on January 25, 1994, took force in Latvia on May 1, 1995 · The Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property of March 20, 1883, as revised at Stockholm on July 14, 1967, and amended on September 28, 1979; entered into force with respect to Latvia on September 7, 1993 · The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), done at Washington on June 19, 1970; entered into force with respect to Latvia on September 7, 1993 · Regulations under The Patent Cooperation Treaty
